klimaatverandering

“Klimaatverandering” is the Dutch term for “climate change.” It refers to significant and lasting changes in the Earth’s climate, particularly a rise in global temperatures and shifts in weather patterns over an extended period. This phenomenon is primarily driven by human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes, which increase concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gases trap heat, leading to a warming effect known as the greenhouse effect.

The consequences of climate change include rising sea levels, increased frequency and severity of extreme weather events (like hurricanes and droughts), changing ecosystems, and disruptions to agriculture and biodiversity. Climate change poses significant challenges for societies worldwide, impacting health, livelihoods, and overall environmental stability. Efforts to mitigate climate change focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to renewable energy sources, while adaptation strategies aim to manage and minimize its impacts.
