Tennis

Tennis is a racquet sport played between either two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles). The game is played on a rectangular court divided by a net, with players using a tennis racquet to strike a felt-covered rubber ball. The objective is to hit the ball in such a way that the opponent is unable to return it effectively, thus scoring points.

Players serve the ball from behind the baseline into the opponent’s service box, and rallies continue until one player fails to return the ball within the boundaries of the court. Points are scored in a specific sequence, leading to games, sets, and ultimately the match. Tennis is governed by a set of rules defined by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The sport can be played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each influencing the ball’s speed and bounce. Tennis has a global following, with major tournaments like Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open, collectively known as the Grand Slam events. It is known for its combination of physical athleticism, mental strategy, and skillful technique.
